Can Timbren Axle Less Kit Fit on Aluminum Frame Trailer

Question:

Can I install this part on an aluminum I-beam trailer? I have a 2009 McClain AT1730 boat trailer and I am tired of replacing the axle and leaf spring set up. I see two bolt holes on the top of the unit that could definitely be used to bolt it to one side of the beam. I plan on using the cross member because I do not have one close to where the axles will be. I think I can fabricate an aluminum block the full length of the unit to fit between the units 3 top bolt holes and the I beam to make a secure horizontally bolted connection if that is necessary. Thank you,

Helpful Expert Reply:

The Timbren Axle-Less Suspension System, # A20RS545, is compatible with aluminum trailer frames. I recommend that when installing the system that you use rubber shims the fit between the steel of the Timbren axles and the aluminum frame to prevent galvanic corrosion. The included hardware will work for the steel on aluminum application.
