Adjusting Fifth Wheel Trailer for New Truck Ride Height Using a Axle Over Under Kit

Question:

I have a 30 ft. Escaper 5th wheel, made by Damon inc. I just bought a Dodge 2500 4x4 which sets 6inch higher then my old truck. I cant adjust my hitch enough for the height I need. What do you recommend? If I need an over and under lift kit, what one do I need? How will my trailer handle? Thank You

If possible, the best option for making an adjustment for your trailer is to see if the pin box can be adjusted to compensate for the difference in your truck height. You may be able to use the additional mounting locations to adjust the ride height of the pin box so that it will align properly with your new Dodge 2500 4 by 4.

To determine the correct over and under kit you will need to measure your existing axles on your 5th wheel trailer. We have kits prepared for 2-3/8 inch axles, and 3 inch axles. If your existing axle is 3 inches then you can use the Dexter Kit # K71-385-00 that you referenced. If your axle is larger than 3 inches please let me know and we will have to compile a kit specific for your needs.

If you do use the over and under kit it will significantly change how your trailer will handle. If you use this kit to increase the ride height of your trailer it will be more susceptible to sway, and be more top heavy.
