Thule does list the Passage 3 trunk mount bike rack # TH911XT as a fit for the 2009 Jeep Liberty. However that spoiler at the top would interfere with the isntallation of the top hooks of the rack and the spoiler is not designed to carry any additional weight and could get damaged.
The only trunk mount bike rack I recommend for your vehicle would be the Hollywood Racks Over-the-Top rack # HRF2-3. This rack has an additional upper arm piece that moves the straps up and over the spoiler so it would not be an issue. I have linked a video review of this rack for you.
The safest way to carry bikes on a vehicle and that nearly eliminates potential contact with the vehicle is to install a trailer hitch and use a hitch mount bike rack. You could use a Class II trailer hitch, # 36423, with a 1-1/4 inch receiver and still carry up to 4 bikes. I have linked a video showing an installation on another vehicle this hitch fits.
Then for a bike rack I recommend the Swagman Trailhead, # S63380. This is a 4-bike rack but it is much easier to load 3 bikes on a 4-bike rack. Plus this rack costs less then many 3 bike racks. It also features anti-sway cradles and the ability to tilt down. I have linked a video review for you.
If you will be carrying any bikes that do not have a top frame bar that goes straight across (like a typical mens bike would) then I recommend using bike adapter bar # 64005. This will allow you to carry those bikes more level and will provide better ground clearance. I have to use these adapters and without them my wifes bike would be at a severe angle and I would not be able to load my sons bike at all.
