Which Pin of 7-Way Should Have Brake Output Circuit

Question:

I have recently installed a Curt brake controller on my vehicle then realized it was not activating my trailer brakes. I have used a multi-meter and determined that no matter what my brake prong on my 7 way plug always has 12v power to the brake pin. What would cause this? and why would that not cause my trailer brakes to be stuck on instead of not working at all? Thank you and look forward to your reply.

Expert Reply:

The correct pin of your vehicle 7-way that should carry the trailer brakes is the 5:00 pin so I would check to make sure that is correct. The pin that is active all the time is the 12 volt accessory circuit which is in the 1:00 pin position. It sounds like that might be what you have found.
