Troubleshooting Steps Only Extending 1/2" Following Controller, Motor, and Gear Box Installation
Question:
I have a 2018 Thor Hurricane. I hired a repairman and he replaced the gear box, controller and motor and the steps still will not work. Open the door and they make about a 1/2 inch attempt to come out. Close the door and they make a 1/2 inch attempt to go in.

The first thing I would do is double check that the installation was done correctly. After that, check for proper voltage on the step using a circuit tester like # PTW2993. If this checks out, you can pull the motor off the gear box and make sure the step is free flowing. If there is resistance it will cause the step to fault resulting in the condition you described. Unless you're afraid he will make it worse, I would make the repairman come back out and finish the job for you.
