Do LaSalle Bristol Utopia TurboVent Need to be Used When Camper is Connected to Sewer Line

Question:

Hello, I have a 2023 Salem RKX by Forest River. Both the kitchen and the bath have Utopia Turbo Vents. I understand the purpose of the vents anti-siphon for p-trap in general. Are they necessary in a camper when parked and “permanently” hooked to sewer? Both vents seem to be operating the vent moves inside the device but I can smell the grey water tank through the bathroom vent it has been replaced the turbo vent AND adjusted the height because it was at the level of the shower drain, below the sink drain. I normally left the grey water tank open on my 2022 Jayco camper closing it when dumping the black tank and never smelled either tank except when dumping the black tank. Thanks

You need to have and use air vents on your 2023 Forest River Salem RKX, whether you're using the LaSalle Bristol Utopia TurboVent # 3447425011AAVABS or a traditional vent that goes up through the roof of your camper. RV builders have certain codes they have to meet and having sewage vents is one of the boxes that have to be checked.

Since you're experiencing issues I recommend checking the following troubleshooting steps:

Look for another trap down the line
The slope on your drain isn't steep enough - causing more pressure on the line
You have a clog down the line - causing more pressure on the line
Your roof vent plumbing has a clog
