Is It Okay To Have a Travel Trailer With Left Hand Threads On Left Side Of Trailer?

Question:

I am rebuilding an older travel trailer with tandem dexter axles. One wheel on the left side has Left handed bolts and the other wheel has Right handed bolts. Is this going to be a problem, should the Left side have only Left handed bolts? I would like to change over to Right handed bolts on the left side to keep someone from snapping a bolt off - is this possible? Thanks

Helpful Expert Reply:

There are some trucks and trailers which use left hand threads on the left hand side wheels and tires but these are typically larger commercial applications. For your travel trailer I recommend switching your single wheel with the left hand threads you have over to right hand threads. This will help to reduce confusion and prevent damage to your hub since the left hand threads are not commonly used on the smaller trailers. It also ensures all your components are interchangeable so you don't have to carry different replacement components for each side. If you can provide me with some information on your hubs I can help you find the correct replacement.
