Troubleshooting Trailer Brakes that Only Work in Reverse

Question:

When I manually activate my trailer brake switch, it only works in reverse, not forward.

That's an interesting problem to have but it could be that your trailer's brake assemblies are on the wrong sides of the trailer. Brake assemblies are directional and if they are installed on the wrong side they won't activate going forward. To check this you would need to pull off the wheel and hub to look at the inside of the brake assembly. The bracket that holds the magnet would need to be on the side of the spindle that faces the front of the trailer.
