Question:
Thanks. My Lakota trailer connections are the same … but the black wire from the trailer is always hot and it will connect to the hot pin from the truck is this correct? Hot to hot? Will there be damage if these 2 circuits are connected? No one here in NC knows the answer The horse trailer is a goose neck with a break away brake System. Thanks for any help

A Diode # RM-690 can be used to prevent battery power from your trailer traveling to your tow vehicle. This diode is rated up to 85 amps which is more than the charging system on your vehicle is capable of providing. Having it connected hot to hot allows you to use your vehicle power to charge the battery and also power any lights or electric jacks off your vehicle when the trailer battery is dead.
If your trailer only uses the power for a breakaway battery you can instead us the Charger # 20011 instead of the diode above. The charger helps to prevent over charging the battery and causing it to overheat.
