Can Reese 5th Wheel Install Kit # RP30035 from 1994 GMC 1500 Fit 2012 Ram 3500

Question:

I have a Reese 14k classic that I took out of my 1994 GMC1500 and putting it in a 2012 Ram 3500. Can I use the same frame mounting brackets and just purchase a bolt kit?

The Reese 14K 5th wheel hitch from your 1994 GMC 1500 was most-likely installed with a universal 5th Wheel install kit, part # RP30035, since we do not offer any custom-bracket install kits for that vehicle. However, we do have semi-custom kits for your new truck, the 2012 Ram 3500.

If the original installation kit was indeed the universal type then it can be moved to and installed in your new Ram truck. Replacement hardware is available as part # 58164, or hardware plus universal brackets (but no base rails) as part # RP30439.

Universal install kits require more drilling and installation time than semi-custom and custom kits. If you prefer, and if your Ram has overload springs, you can save some drilling and labor time by using a semi-custom under-bed bracket kit along with the new hardware (# 58164) and your existing base rails. The semi-custom bracket kit is part # RP58186.

If you prefer to use all new components then the kit you referenced, part # RP30035-186, can be used as long as your Ram is not a Mega Cab. I have linked an article on 5th wheel installations that might be useful to you.
