Determining The Correct E-Bike Bike Rack For A Small Travel Trailer

Question:

Hi: we have a small travel trailer with a 3’ tongue with a propane tank bin on the front. Want to consider e-bike, but not sure what rack might be best considering how hard it would be to lift bikes up. I have a photo of hitch I’d like to send to you.

Most e-bikes are pretty heavy so the racks that are capable of hauling them tend to only be trailer hitch mounted. Most tongue mounted bike racks max out around 35-40lbs per bike so you'd likely be well over the weight limit. Hitch mounted bike racks have a bit more support and can range up to 80lbs per bike. You'll also need to check if the bike rack is rated for use on travel trailers because the suspension of the trailer is less sophisticated and can be too rough on the rack and cause a stress fracture.

If your trailer doesn't have a trailer hitch receiver on the back then you'll need to measure the distance between the inside of the frame beams to determine which hitch would fit. For example, the Curt Adjustable Width Trailer Hitch Receiver for RVs # 13703 can fit frame widths of 22" to 72" wide and has a 350lb tongue weight capacity.

If you can get me the weight of the e-bikes (without the battery) and the frame width measurement I'd be happy to find the right fit for your needs.
