For your 2008 Nissan Murano with the factory rails, there are a few cargo carriers that are available. Some roof racks have an adjustable crossbar. To determine which cargo boxes fit your vehicle without contacting your hatch, measure from the center of your vehicles front roof rack crossbar to the point where the roof meets the hatch. This is called front clearance. If your vehicle has crossbars that can be repositioned, then moving them forward will increase the number of cargo boxes that will fit without interfering with the rear hatch opening.

If the distance you measure is 46-3/8 inches or less, then I recommend the Thule Pulse L Rooftop Cargo Box, part # TH615. This cargo carrier has 16 cubic feet of storage space and weighs only 36 lbs. It has an aerodynamic shape which reduces drag and wind noise.

Another option for your Murano would be a cargo bag like the Rightline Gear Sport 2 Rooftop Cargo Bag, part # RL100S20. This bag has 12 cubic feet of cargo space and attaches to your luggage rack by using the 4 included straps. the cargo bag unzips three quarters of the way around using a corrosion resistant zipper that is built into a protective flap to keep water out.

To make access to the cargo carriers easier, I recommend a tire step like part # HE4040. This slips over the wheel of your vehicle and makes it much easier to reach the center of your cargo carrier on the roof of your Murano.
