Troubleshooting A Roadmaster Even BRake Supplemental Braking System That Isn't Build Pressure

Question:

I have power to my even break , compressor does not pressure up, PV monitor said low battery , I cleaned reatached the grout to ICX , I have not hooked up break light switch wire to the ICX, will that stop it from working ? Will even break unit pressure up if ICX is not communicating with RV monitor?

A low battery error message indicates that the main unit of the Roadmaster Even Brake # RM-9400 isn't receiving 12v power and would require you to investigate why. If you're not plugging into a 12v outlet in the towed vehicle that's receiving constant power then you'll want to install one like part # RM-9332. You'll also want to ensure that the ICX transmitter is also properly grounded to the frame of the tow vehicle.

The brake light switch wire is needed to get the confirmation that the brake pedal is actually being depressed so it can send it up to motorhome monitor and allow you to see that the brakes are being activated. Since this system activates off of an internal inertia sensor the communication between the transmitter and motorhome monitor wouldn't be the reason that the unit isn't pressurizing. After you ensure you have power and ground you will need to have the transmitter wired to the breakaway switch and can then pull the pin from breakaway switch to see if the system activates.

If this is an older unit and not a first time installation then there could be an issue with either the valve # RM-450601-50 or air cylinder # RM-452109-10 leaking and not allowing pressure to build. If this is the case you would simply need to replace the defective components.
