Is There a Way to Carry a Tandem Kayak and SUP on a 2019 Subaru Crosstrek with Factory Roof Rack
Question:
Hi, I have a 2019 Subaru Crosstrek with factory crossbars. I need to haul a paddle board and tandem kayak at the same time on highways and backroads. What is your recommended setup? Thank you

Transporting a Kayak and a SUP at the same time is typically possible, but that is made more difficult by it being a tandem kayak. That is because you have to haul your SUP flat and the average width of a SUP is 32"-34" wide. This would typically mean that you need to carry the kayak upright on its side to have enough room on the roof rack. But tandem kayaks often need to be transported flat as well due to the shape/size/weight of the tandem kayak.
The best option we have is the Yakima BigStack Kayak Roof Rack w/ Tie-Downs # Y04041. This is a post style carrier which takes up less space and does not have a stated weight capacity limit (limited to vehicles roof and roof rack limitations). This includes the needed tie-downs.
Your best bet for the SUP carrier will just be crossbar pads like the # RRRWP05 (33-1/2" Long) or # RRRWP04 (27-1/2" Long) depending on how much space you have left on your crossbars. Both of these pads come with the needed tie-downs.
There really isn't a prefect scenario and without knowing the exact specifications on your tandem kayak and SUP, this is the most likely option that may work.
