Can a Hitch Extender Be Used With Ram 1500 Pulling a 5,500LB Winnebago Travel Trailer?

Question:

I want to find a class III hitch extender, I pull a Winnebago 25 travel trailer weighs 5500 lbs using a Husky load leveling hitch. I want to move the hitch back about 12 so need an extender capable of 700 lb tongue weight and 5500 trailer weight. I pull with a RAM 5.7 V8 3:92 gears crew cab 4x4 pickup 1500 series. Can you recommend an extender?

I have a recommendation for you as there is not a hitch extender capable of supporting the weight of your Winnebago behind your Ram 1500. You may be able to use the Equal-i-zer Weight Dist Shank # EQ90-02-4600 which is 6" longer than most weight distribution shanks. You only need to verify your Husky has a vertical hole spacing of 1-1/4" on center.

Adapters like the Gen-Y # GY89SR require you to reduce your receiver capacity by 50%. This will most likely put you below the 5,500lb capacity below the amount you need for your Winnebago.
