The best way to know that your weight distribution system, like the Reese # RP66541, is working correctly is to check how level your towing rig is and if the height of your truck is about the same as it is when you don't have the trailer connected to your truck.
None of the weight distribution systems give specifics on how much weight should be on different parts of your towing rig so 80 lbs lighter on the front axle of your truck could very well be a good thing - it's mainly about following the instructions for setting up the weight distribution system and getting the front and back of your truck within 1" of of unloaded heights.
