When Wiring the Hopkins Engager # 20099, the the black wire coming off the battery box would be wired to your trailers 12v auxiliary power lead. This will keep a charge on the brakeaway battery anytime the trailer is in use. I would not recommend wiring the charge line to your side lights. I would be concerned that the side light wire may not provide a complete, effective charge to the battery while also properly powering the lights. It is definitely not worth risking a dead Brakeaway battery.
