Recommendations For Preventing Coiled Safety Cables From Dragging With Blue Ox Tow Bars

Question:

Using a blue ox 7500 lb set up for flat tow of a mini cooper. Coiled cable dragged and tore covering on a steep incline due to it being so low. Just ordered new set of cables. I see you can wrap the cables on a trailer tongue, could I wrap them on the tow bar to get them off the ground entirely? Could I use electrical ties guaranteed to break if needed to coil them tighter if I don’t wrap them? Thanks

I do not recommend wrapping the Blue Ox 7' Safety Cables # BX88196 around your tow bar. This could cause any breakaway cable used with a supplemental braking system to not activate in the event of a breakaway. Instead the simplest fix to try and prevent this from occurring again in the future is by using Cable Ties # DW05727-10. This will allow you to tie up the cables where they sag between your motorhome and the front of your Mini Cooper. These have a break strength of 50lbs so they are more than strong enough to hold up the cable but will easily break in the event of a breakaway.
