Will Prodigy RF Trailer Brake Controller Work with Warner 12-1/4 x 5-1/2 Inch Electric Brakes

Question:

I have an old Miller 15 ton tandem axle equipment trailer with Warner electric brakes. The brake size is 12 1/4inch X 5 1/2inch shoes. They require 3.7 amps at each brake to work. The old Warner controller info. that I found says to wire that controller, and the brakes with 10 gauge wire, and use a 30 amp fuse or breaker. Will this Prodigy model TK94FR with wireless remote work for this application? I forgot to mention one of the tow vehicles has hydraulic brakes, and the other has air brakes. Thank you

Expert Reply:

First, the type of brakes on the tow vehicles does not matter when using an electric brake controller. The Prodigy RF in particular needs to have a functioning 7-Way trailer connector with working 12 volt circuit in order to work.

The Prodigy RF # TK94FR can work on trailers with up to 6 brake assemblies. Typical brake magnets on 12 inch assemblies will draw between 3.2 and 4.0 amps so your 12-1/4 brakes are within that range at 3.7 amps. I have included a link to the installation instructions and a video showing a typical installation of the RF for you.
