Fifth Wheel Towing Options for 2014 Ram Truck w/ Factory Tow Prep Package

Question:

My question is , does the reese adapter plate for factory ram mount center my hitch above axle? I need all the space I can. The Curt mount for trucks without factory mount seems like it will be mounting my hitch closer to the cab than I would like. The front rail is like 54inch from tailgate. Just wondering if you know how far from tailgate the reese adapter mount would place my hitch. Thanks

When the Reese 5th Wheel Rail Adapter is installed, the fifth wheel hitch will be centered between the front and rear pucks. If you measure the distance between the front and rear pucks, and divide that by half, this will show you exactly where the king pin of the fifth wheel will lock into the jaws. I have linked you to a photo showing this.

Typically, the king pin will sit within 2 inches forward of the rear axle centerline. If you have the 6 foot bed, you will need to use a sliding hitch. Keep in mind that only certain sliders are compatible with the Reese # RP30154 adapter. I have linked you to the selection of compatible sliding fifth wheel hitches. Another option would be to use a standard, stationary hitch along with a Sidewinder. A Sidewinder is pin-box specific, so in order to choose the correct one, you will need to know the manufacturer and model number of your existing pin box. This information can usually be found on a sticker placed somewhere on the pin box.

As a last option, B and W offers the Companion, part # BWRVK3600 that would install directly into the pucks in your truck bed, without needing an adapter. There is not a sliding option, but it is compatible with the use of a Sidewinder.

I have linked you to the instructions for the Reese # RP30154 adapter.
