Typical Suspension Travel for Trailer Leaf Springs on Boat Trailer
Question:
Greetings, I have a tandem trailer with 3500# springs and axles. My boat is a 23 coastal cruiser that ways probably in excess of 5000lbs. Do you have any idea how much the springs will move under this weight? I know to allow for 3 of travel.

Helpful Expert Reply:
For 3,500 lb springs like # e97SR you can expect 1-1/2" of spring deflection while at capacity. So assuming tandem axles at 3,500 lbs each that would be 1-1/2" at 7,000 lbs. Since your boat doesn't weight that much it will be a little less, but there is no way to calculate it exactly.
