Will 4,000 lb, 26 Inch Leaf Springs Replace 26-1/4 Inch Springs on 7,200 lb Trailer

Question:

I’m looking to replace the leaf springs and all the associated hardware on an older trailer I recently purchased. The trailer is a 2006 Echo and the tag says 7200lbs. Someone has replaced both axles, all the leaf springs, and the hardware with something out of an older trailer. The old leaf springs are rusted and broke. The eyelets measure 26 ¼ inches across. I am wondering if these 26in 4000lb springs would work as replacements? I would just like to have the trailer close to its rated 7200lbs weight.

Expert Reply:

Absolutely; 4,000 lb leaf springs can be used for your 7,200 lb trailer, and because leaf springs flatten over time, going with springs that are a bit smaller than your current 26-1/4 inch long springs is exactly what you need to do. So yes, you can use the springs you asked about, which are the following part number:

- 4-Leaf Double-Eye Spring for 4,000-lb Trailer Axles - 26" Long # e22YR
