Would this work with a wheel that has a 8x170mm pattern or would I have to use a wheel adaptor?

You will need an adapter to mount a wheel with 8 on 170mm bolt patter to the Dexter Trailer Hub and Drum Assembly # 8-219-4UC3-EZ with 8 on 6-1/2" bolt pattern.
