Troubleshooting Brake Controller that Stopped Working with Brake Pedal
Question:
I have installed a Hopkins insight brake controller with all the Simple Plug-in wire adapters on a 2004 F150 with a 4 pin tow package and used the 7 pin/4 pin adapter at the rear and the brake controller wire adapter from the controller to the factory wire harness plug. I dont get the trailer brakes to respond with the brake pedal, but the manual override works when I use that. Do I need to put a jumper wire from the controller red wire to the brake switch cold side of the red wire?

The issue is definitely the red wire like you mentioned. It's not getting voltage like it needs when the brakes are applied to tell the controller to start applying the trailer brakes. This can be as simple as a cut wire or loose connection or sometimes its a blown third brake light fuse.
