Adapter To Connect 1989 Trailer With 6-Way Round Harness To 2003 Honda Element With 4-Way Plug

Question:

Connecting 4 pole flat on my Honda element to my 1989 Palomino with 6 round harness. I just bought a Palomino pop up with a 6 wire round harness and my Honda Element has a quick connect but with a 4 pole flat, how do I convert this to match?

For your 2003 Honda Element with the 4-way plug I recommend the 4 Pole to 6 Pole and 4 Pole Trailer Wiring Adapter, part # 37175. This adapter just plugs into your existing 4-way plug and will give you a 6-way round and a 4-way plug on the back of your vehicle.

On this adapter there will be three wires, a white wire which needs to be grounded to a clean unpainted metal surface on the vehicle. There will also be a blue wire, which is normally for brakes, but can be tied up if not needed. The same applies for the red wire which is typically an auxiliary or hot lead. If not used it can be tied up as well. This adapter comes with a mounting bracket for the back of your Element.

I also recommend using Dielectric Grease for Electrical Connectors, part # 11755. Using this on all of your electrical connections will help prevent electrical failures caused by corrosion and moisture and protects bulbs, sockets, and trailer connectors. It is moisture resistant and will not wash away.

To make certain you have all of the functions on the connections correct, you may wish to use a circuit tester, like part # PTW2993.

I have attached an installation video for this adapter.
