How to Determine Correct 3,500 lb Leaf Spring Size

Question:

Hello, I’m noticing my trailer is leaning towards the driver side and after measuring is about an inch and 1/4 lower than the higher side. I’m thinking it’s time to replace/upgrade the leaf springs. Question is can I replace the leaf springs with 2 different weight capacity’s? Like put a stiffer spring on the heavy side of the trailer? Or is it better to keep the two sides identical? 2018 coachman clipper 17bhs

Expert Reply:

You definitely want to keep the same weight capacity leaf springs on both sides; having different capacities will cause uneven wear on the tires and other suspension components. Your 2018 Coachmen Clipper 17BHS will have a 3,500 lb axles, so to determine the correct replacement leaf springs you'll need to measure your current leaf springs from center-to-center of the spring eyes.

Leaf springs also flatten a bit over time, so you should go with ones that measure a bit shorter than what you currently have. For example, if they measured 26-1/2" go with the 4-Leaf Double-Eye Spring for 3,500-lb Trailer Axles - 27" Long # e97SR.

I have added a link below to our entire selection of 3,500 lb leaf springs for you.
