How To Install Reverse Lockout On Demco Actuator DM72VR

Question:

I just installed a DM72VR Actuator.Where the coupler slides together to activate the actuator there is a open slot. Can I put a grade 8 bolt thru the slot to keep the coupler from sliding together and therefore work as reverse lockout? The Bolt would only be used when backing up incline at very slow speed. Thanks Jim

The Demco # DM72VR you installed is not designed to have any sort of manual lockout or bolt to hold it together, so I would not recommend doing that as you could potentially damage the coupler and render it unusable.

The better option is installing a reverse lockout solenoid # DM11993 and installing a 5-way connector on the trailer with # HM47913. You'll wire one wire from the solenoid to the blue wire of the 5-way, and ground the other wire from the solenoid.

You'll need to make sure that your tow vehicle also has a 5-way or 7-way connector installed. Once installed when you put your vehicle in reverse the solenoid will get power and allow you to back up without applying the brakes.
