How Does the Curt Echo Wireless Brake Controller Get Brake Signal?
Question:
Hi, I have a question regarding the Curt Echo Wireless Trailer Brake Controller # C51180. Im interested in knowing what inputs this controller uses to generate the brake signal for the trailer. I understand the setup and how it is used. Also, are there any other less bulky alternatives to this controller for vehicles without a brake wire? Thanks

The Curt Echo # C51180 picks up the brake lamp signal which then tells the controller that the brakes are being applied, and at the same time the internal accelerometer is telling the unit how quickly and with how much force the brakes are being applied.
As far as a less bulky option that is in a 7-way style like the Echo there unfortunately is not going to be another option. We do have the Redarc Tow-Pro Liberty Brake Controller # RED24FR which is just a knob and would be the least bulkiest option, however to install this brake controller you would have to splice it into your wiring.
