How Much Clearance Is Needed To Lower The Tailgate With The Kuat Transfer V2 Bike Rack

Question:

For lowering tailgates with the rack installed, can you give a rough measurement of the highest point of this rack in its lowest position above the hitch?

With the Kuat Transfer V2 Bike Rack for 1 Bike # KU64FR in the platform position with the wheel mount arm fully down would leave the wheel cradle as the highest point. One of the installers here has one on his vehicle in a 1-1/4" hitch that I was able to measure and got a 12" measurement from the bottom of his hitch to the top of the wheel cradle. If you're using this in a 2" hitch you'd need to figure an extra 3/8" in height.

If you measure from the bottom of the receiver hitch to the tailgate and get 12-1/2" to 13" you should have enough clearance for the tailgate to lower without touching the bike rack. If you don't have enough space then you can tilt the rack out with the wheel mount arm down for more clearance.
