What Parts Are Needed to Tow a 2008 Ford Ranger using Base Plate Kit # 477-5

Question:

Which tow bar would be uses to readily connect to the part #477-5? I have a 2008 Ford Ranger pickup which, Ford Motor Company says is towable has the right modl transmission. It has a standar transmission. Also, perhaps you can find a tow bar which is relatively reasonable in price. I was looking at a tracker, not knowing wj\hether or not it could be used with the part #477-5. Maybe you can also indicate other parts I would require, like the wiring harness etc. Thank you.

The Roadmaster Tracker tow bar, part # RM-020 will fit any RoadMaster XL, EZ and standard style base-plate kits. The kit you chose for your Ranger, part # 477-5, is an XL sytle bracket so it will work fine with the Tracker towbar. The Tracker tow bar is rated for 5,000 lbs. As long as your Ranger is under 5,000 pounds, everything will work fine.

You have two basic options when wiring. You can use a magnetic or clip on kit that you would put on your Ranger like part # RM-2120 or # RM-2120. If you prefer to hardwire into the Ranger taillights, you would use RoadMaster kit part # RM-154.

These are the required elements for towing a vehicle. A braking system for the towed vehicle is something to consider. Some states even require them. There is a whole range of brake systems depending on what the RV/Motorhome brake system is. I have included a link to the page of the brake systems we carry so you can browse through it.
