The DeeZee Brite Tread Wrap Side Bed Caps # DZ11992 will fit your 2006 GMC Sierra as long as you have the 6-1/2' bed without the stepside. The standard 6-1/2' bed is actually 78.6" and the 5-1/2' bed is 69.6". I recommend measuring again since it must be one or the other. Since you already measured 6' or 72" I'm willing to bet you have the 6-1/2' bed.
