Running Boards for 2005 Toyota Tundra Access Cab
Question:
It seems these are frame mounted running boards. Is that mounting system superior to rocker panel mounting? I am concerned the plastic end caps might prove to be a weak point? Any other help in choosing running board steps for an 05 tundra access cab is appreciated. Tough item to buy from catalog.

A running board that attaches to the vehicle frame is going to provide a more sturdy mounting point...at least in theory. The frame is much stronger than the rocker panels but what we have found is that both really do a great job and we don't have issues with either. The Westin Sure-Grip Running Boards # 27-6125-1155 that you referenced actually do not attach to the frame though. These attach to the body underneath vehicle via the rocker panel
The ends of these steps are sturdy though too and since they don't normally get stepped on they aren't known to fall off or have issues.
These steps are a really solid option that would work well for you. For something similar but a little different we have the Westin part # 27-0005-1155 instead which have lights built into them to help getting in and out of the vehicle
