Troubleshooting Ground Error for Prodigy P3 Brake Controller

Question:

I have a P-3 brake controller that has worked well for a couple years. Now I am getting an open ground error when a trailer is connected. This happens with several different trailers that the controller used to wok with. A meter check between the trailer plug and the truck frame shows a good ground at that point. The wiring on the controller is plugged into the truck socket under the dash and all wires look good. I dont know what to check next.

The Tekonsha Prodigy P3 Trailer Brake Controller # 90195 might be referring to the ground on your 7-Way truck connector since the trailer ground is connected to that circuit as well. Check the pin in the 7 o'clock position and make sure it is clean and clear of any rust and corrosion.

If your P3 installs with a wiring adapter with a separate ground be sure to check that as well.
