What Size Equal-i-zer Hitch Is Needed For a 27' Crossroads Sunset Trail With GVWR of 7,550lbs?
Question:
I have a 27 ft sunset trail travel trailer that is am towing with my 22 Chevy Silverado. The trailer dry weight is 5650 lb. /gvwr is 7550 I am looking at the equalizer 4 pt weight distribution and sway control. What weight unit should I get, 10,000 lbs system? Thanks for your assistance. Ps… is there is another system you recommend for eliminating sway and giving good control, we would appreciate that suggestion. Note, we used a fastest e3 and did not care for it compared to an equalizer we had on an older trailer. We also used an Anderson system and it was too much of a headache adjusting the chain tension at each hook up.

If you can tell me exactly what model number and year Crossroads Sunset Trail you have I can help you identify the correct Equal-i-zer weight distribution hitch. This will help me to identify the amount of tongue weight the trailer has. While you most likely will need the 10,000LB Equal-i-zer # EQ37100ET you may benefit better from the 12,000LB Equal-i-zer # EQ37120ET. The 10,000lb kit is for a tongue weight of 600-1,000lbs while the 12,000lb kit is rated for a tongue weight of 800-1,200lbs.
If you find your trailers dry tongue weight remember you will need to add the additional weight for the battery(50lbs), propane(40-60lbs) and any gear you add to the front of the camper.
Personally I feel the Equal-i-zer weight distribution systems are the best bang for the buck. These continue to be the system everyone is trying to compete with and is significantly more affordable than the ProPride 3P Weight Distribution Hitch # PR57QR.
