MaxxAir Vent Lid Will Not Open

Question:

I have a max air vent that will not open with the electronic switch. It sounds like it is grinding. If I manually screw the lid open a couple if inches it will engage and raise the lid. Do I need the whole assembly or is there a gear to be replaced?

From what you are describing it sounds like the operator mechanism is in need of replacing. You didn't mention what model you have but for models 4500K - 4900K, 4700N, and 4900N use Replacement Operator Mechanism for MaxxAir MaxxFan Plus or MaxxFan Deluxe Roof Vents # MA10-20281K-1AF.
