Disc brakes are definitely the way to go when it comes to heavy trailers. I would not recommend replacing your brake controller if it is in good condition. The Tekonsha Prodigy P2 brake controller is compatible with all electric-over-hydraulic systems and will work great with any unit. That is actually the brake controller I frequently recommend to new customers.
The electric-over-hydraulic unit that I would recommend is the Carlisle HydraStar Electric-Over-Hydraulic System, # HBA16, that you referenced. It is made of extruded aluminum instead of steel or plastic for a durable, corrosion resistant housing. It also has a maximum output pressure of 1,600 psi which is ideal for disc brakes on large trailers.
