Is It Okay for Equal-i-zer Head Unit to Sit at An Angle
Question:
Hi - I have a 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee Overland - with the air suspension system. I am using an Equal-izer 6000 lb weight dist hitch with an Rpod 2700 lbs. The hitch was installed a few years ago by Camping World - and seemed to work great! The ball had a distinct tilt when not hooked up. I took my Rpod in for repair and the guys looked at the hitch when we disconnected and said the hitch was installed wrong. That the hitch should be level - the ball should not have the tilt. So they took out all the washers - reset the brackets on the trailer - and adjust the ball so that when first connected - everything looked level. However - I noticed almost right away the ride was very bumpy - I can feel everything the Rpod is doing - and over bumps - I can hear the hitch bouncing - whereas before - I could hardly notice I was pulling anything! My gut tells me the guys meant well - but the adjustments were not right. My Jeep inflates the air system at around 45 MPH - so wont that impact the performance of the hitch? Should we have set the Jeep in the aero mode when they set up the hitch? The repair place has a great rep and the guys seemed very confident - I just want it to be right! Really appreciate your advice!

I think your gut is right in this instance. If makes sense that you would want the head part of a towing system to be level, but weight distribution, like your 6K Equal-i-zer # EQ37060ET, have to be set up a little differently since they are designed to bring everything back into level.
The installation instructions for this system are linked for you to check out, or you can share them with another trailer shop if you don't feel comfortable setting everything up on your own.
