Selecting RoadActive Suspension or Equal-i-zer Weight Distribution For a 2014 Chevy Silverado 1500
Question:
Question about the Roadactive Suspension Leafspring Enhancement Kit. I see there are two versions. a Regular Version and a Heavy Duty version. The regular version has a 2,000 lb capacity, and the HD version has a 3,000 lb capacity. I know it doesnt increase the payload of the truck, so where does the 2K and 3K capacity come in? My wife and I are looking at 6,000 lb campers.

The capacities on the RoadActive Suspension Custom Leaf Spring Enhancement Kits 2,000LB # RAS4611 and 3,000LB # RAS54FR are the maximum amount of weight these kits are rated to support. In terms of your 6,000lb trailer typically 10-15% of the trailer weight rests on the tongue so you would see around 600-900lbs of tongue weight. For this the 2,000LB # RAS4611 would be the best option of the 2 kits to use.
Personally I recommend using the Equal-i-zer Weight Distribution System # EQ37100ET. This will provide you with a much safer ride than only the RoadActive kit will be able to provide. The Equal-i-zer transfers weight from just the rear of your truck to the front suspension as well. It also incorporates sway control into the hitch which helps keep it tracking straight while you drive. Best of all when not towing it does not change the smooth ride quality you get from the factory suspension. This particular Equal-i-zer is rated for a trailer up to 10,000lbs with a tongue weight of 600-1,000lbs.
