Parts Needed to Install Brake Controller 2017 Ford Expedition XLT with 4-Way
Question:
2017 Ford Expedition XLT 4 Flat - I am trying to convert my 4 flat to a round 7. The Tekonsha brake controller has a plug and play adapter to fit into the harness that is already built into the truck. However, I will still need to run 12v power to my trailer so that the trailer brakes dont run down the trailers battery. Everything that I see shows connecting the 12v line through the brake controller, but there is no examples of using the plug and play adapter. Is there a way that I can still use the adapter and run power back to my 7 pin. Or will I have to cut the wire of my Tekonsha to wire as diagramed in Item # ETBC7 install instructions. Can I use the OEM already run blue line to connect to the 7 pin, and just run a wire from the battery through an 40 amp breaker to the 7pin? Or is the direct 12v line with 20/30 amp breaker from the battery to the brake controller also necessary?

On your 2017 Ford Expedition that has the factory 4-way there is a port under the dash for the install of a brake controller but the brake output circuit that runs to the rear of the vehicle and the 12 volt power circuit to power the controller are not active so you still do want the part # ETBC7 to cover those two circuit and adapt the 4-way to a 7-way.
Basically you would cut the blue wire of the brake controller and run it back to the 7-way for the output circuit and then you'd cut the black wire out and run that up to the vehicle battery positive post through an included circuit breaker. For an install harness you'd want the part # 22292 and for a brake controller the P3 part # 90195 is a really great option that performs the best and is the most reliable.
