Troubleshooting Electric Trailer Jack Not Working With Jack It Bike Rack On Travel Trailer
Question:
20189 Shamrock 21SS Ford F150 After installing the Jack-it bike rack, the tongue jack and light no longer work. After reverting back to the factory configuration, the jack and light work. I suspect a ground issue, but am unsure how to resolve the problem. The attached picture is the rack installed with a bike on the rack. Thank you in advance for your assistance.

It sounds like your tongue jack is similar to our Electric Jack # EJ-3520-BBX in it only has one power wire coming from the motor and uses the mounting hardware to ground to the trailer frame. When you add the Jack-It 2 Bike Rack # LC429756 between the frame and the jack the layers of paint are eliminating the electrical connection to the frame. You can fix this by grinding the paint off the steel where the metal contacts metal and painting over that when everything is installed to give a clean connection. Or you can use a couple Ring Terminals # DW05741-1 with serrated washers to attach one end to the jack mount and the other end to the frame. This will provide a place for the ground wire to reach the frame.
