The red wire for a brake controller connects to the cold side of the brake switch. The brake switch is located above the brake pedal. There are several wires going in and out of the switch. Use a circuit tester like # PTW2993 to test the wires. You need the wire that shows a signal on the circuit tester ONLY when the brake pedal is pressed. If it shows power with the running lights or turn signals it is not the correct wire.

We have seen other people with 4300's have problems finding the correct wire and have heard of situations where the wire was found behind the glove box on the passenger side of the vehicle. There should be a relay there that provides power to the tail lights. Use this circuit if needed.

If you need a circuit tester you could use our part # 3808.
