Recommendation For Carrying a Generator On a Toy Hauler Travel Trailer

Question:

I have a 30 toy hauler travel trailer that I use for hauling search and rescue dogs. Sometimes we are in remote areas where there is no electricity, so I would like to carry my generator 70 lbs on the back of the trailer on a cargo carrier. I would like to be able to open the back ramp without having to remove the carrier, with a swing out hitch. Also rated high enough to carry a 100lb upright lp cylinder. I would unload the carrier before swinging it out of the way. What products do you recommend to accomplish this? Thanks!

I have a recommendation for you as we do not have any swing away hitches which are rated for use on the back of a travel trailer. Instead check out the Stromberg Carlson Trailer Tray Cargo Carrier # CC-255 which will mount on the front of your travel trailer. This will allow you to place your generator above the existing propane tanks, battery and tongue jack where it will also not be as susceptible to damage. The rear of the trailer bounces more than the front and can cause issues when you mount items on the back.

As for transporting the 100lb propane tank if you have additional room on the tongue of your trailer you could mount it on the front A-frame and secure it to the carrier at the top of the cylinder to help hold it in place. This can vary from trailer to trailer.
