Recommended Weight Distribution for a 7,000 lbs Trailer and Extended Shank for Dropped Tailgate
Question:
Hi, I have a 2023 Ram 2500 and I am planning to purchase a Rockwood 2509s travel trailer. I am looking for a weight distribution hitch with sway control. My goal is to be able to open the tail gate while hitched. Also I would be doing the set up so a product that is easy to set up and has documentation would be preferable. What product would you recommend? Thank you in advance,

It looks like your Rockwood 2509s travel trailer has a gross weight of 6,974 lbs. Weight distribution systems are recommended based on tongue weight which is typically 10% - 15% percent of your trailer's total weight. This would put yours between 690 lbs and 1,050 lbs.
I recommend the Equal-i-zer Weight Distribution w/ 4-Point Sway Control item # EQ37101ET. This system has a range of 600 lbs - 1,000 lbs which would be perfect for your trailer. The built in sway control will help keep your trailer in line with your Ram truck when you are going down the highway and get passed by a semi or make a sudden move.
To open up your tailgate while towing you will want the Equal-I-zer Weight Distribution Shank item # EQ90-02-4600. This shank fits a 2" receiver and is 18" long. It will provide you with 4" of drop and has a tongue weight range of 600 lbs - 1,400 lbs.
I have linked an installation video below.
