The Curt Echo Trailer Brake Controller # C51180 can be used without any under dash wiring on your 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee if you have the factory 7-way. This controller plugs in line of the trailer 7-way and allows you to control your trailer brakes from your smart phone using the Curt Echo app.
Dash mounted controllers like the Tekonsha # 90885 will require either a Wiring Kit # 5506 if you have a factory 7-way or a Install Kit # ETBC7 if you only have a 4-Way # C55369. This is due to there not being a factory connector and Jeep only running the blue wire for the brake controller as seen in the installation video linked below.
