Trailer Winch For 8,000 lb Boat

Question:

Thank you for taking my question. I trailer a 2016 WorldCat 255DC. The trailer that was built for the boat included a winch that I believe is under-rated at 3,000 lbs. Dry weight is 6,600 lbs. Gas capacity is 186 gallons= 1,130 lbs. Fresh Water cap is 50 gallons= 190 lbs launch weight with gear is approx. 8,000 lbs Can you recommend a Winch and Strap for my boat? Thank you

For a boat that is 8,000 lbs, since you want something rated higher than 3,000 lbs you'll have to go with an electric winch because manual winches don't go as high as you are wanting. Capacity is generally 2-to-1 for boat winches (meaning the boat weight can be about 2x the winch capacity), so the best option is the 4,500 lb ComeUp DV-4500si Trailer Winch - Synthetic Rope # CU644501.

The # CU644501 comes with a remote that has a 10' lead, and 50' of synthetic rope. It does measure 16-1/2" long x 9" wide x 6-1/8" tall so you'll need to make sure you have that much room, but there just isn't a smaller option for the capacity you are looking for.
