Brake Controller Recommendation with Easy to Understand Fault Codes

Question:

Greetings… I have a 2007 Classic Chevy 3500 dually gas truck that currently has an older Tekonsha brake controller. I believe it is a Voyager and has a power knob on one side and a level knob on the other plus one multi colored orange/red light. I usually tow an 18 foot dual axle flatbed with electric brakes. Questions 1. I am an occasional hauler although recently towed a 28 ft flatbed roundtrip from Michigan to New Mexico and back. 2. I know some controllers provide information if problems should develop. 3. If I upgrade my Telonsha Voyager would I need a different harness. 4. If I use other than a Tekonsha is any harness or a different harness required. I did watch the video so sorry if I missed it. 5. I am asking for your recommendation for which controller you would suggest and its price. 6. I’d appreciate two choices if you don’t mind and options for each. Thank you?

Most brake controllers do have ability to display fault codes so that you know if something is wrong with the controller, trailer, or wiring. The Prodigy P2 part # 90885 will show two digit codes that mostly make sense at first glance. Like for example the SH code stands for short. Now the P3 # 90195 will show full words on it's display so there's no guesswork as to what's going on and it's immediately easy to understand. These controller both share what's considered to be the best "brain" of a brake controller and have a very advanced inertia sensor to know how hard to apply brakes but the P3 has a display that uses full words like I mentioned and also has ability to save multiple trailer presets.

Both use the same install connectors as a Tekonsha Voyager since they are all made by Tekonsha.

I'd go with the P3 if I were you. Prices are available at links below.
