Can Ultra-Fab Skid Wheels Be Mounted To A Trailer Hitch Receiver
Question:
I recently purchased skid wheels 48-979012 for my 32 foot class C motorhome. Plan was to use a bolt on method to my hitch. My hitch is a 3 inch not a 2.5 inch so I cant use them. Looking at the skid wheels for a class A #48-979013 doesnt indicate if they will fit a 3 inch hitch. Will they? If so Ill need to call and return the 48-979012 and reorder the 48-979013. Thanks,

The intended installation for both the Ultra-Fab Skid Wheels # UF48-979013 and # UF48-979012 is that you would weld the mounting bracket to the frame and bolt the skid wheel to the bracket. There isn't an indicator for these working with a trailer because the manufacturer only wants these mount to the frame, which is strong enough to handle the pressure unlike your trailer hitch.
The trailer hitch is designed to to support weight at the receiver and evenly distribute it down the crosstube to the frame of the vehicle, not to accept weight in a different location on the hitch that it won't be able to evenly distribute. You'd most likely hit a hill and the skid wheels would take on too much weight bending the trailer hitch and ruin multiple components under your RV.
I recommend welding the brackets to the frame instead and avoid any risk to the trailer hitch.
