Expert Reply:

The best brake controller for your 2007 Toyota Tacoma is the Redarc Tow-Pro Liberty Brake Controller item # RED24FR. This is a proportional brake controller that will activate your trailer's brakes when your Tacoma decelerates or stops. It has a unique installation method where the only visible portion of the controller is the nickel sized control knob. The main unit can be mounted in any position underneath or below your dash.

If your Tacoma has the factory tow package then you will have a port you can plug the Tekonsha Plug-In Wiring Adapter for Electric Brake Controllers item # 3040-P and the Redarc Tow-Pro Wiring Adapter for Tekonsha Brake Controller Harness item # 331-TPH-017. These two harnesses will give you a no splice, plug and play installation.

If your Tacoma does not have the tow package and brake controller port you will most need the Universal Wiring Harness for Redarc Tow-Pro Trailer Brake Controllers item # RED69FR to complete your installation.
