Availability Of a Trailer Battery To Tail Light Flasher When Trailer Is Disconnected
Question:
Good morning - Im looking for something that will allow my trailer lights to flash while it is not connected to the tow vehicle. The trailer has its own battery and has a 7-pin. I know I can use a flat fuse to get the running lights to glow Im looking for something that plugs into the male 7-pin cable that allows the brake lights to flash a hazard warning while pulling power from the trailer battery. Does this exist? Thanks very much,

While there is not a single item that will do what you are looking for you can build one quite easily. First you will need a 7-Way # C58155 which will allow you to connect directly to the trailer 7-way. Then you will need either the Custer Single Function LED Strobe Driver # STR-QRLY if your trailer has LED tail lights with up to 420 milliamps of draw, or you will need to source a flasher from a local auto parts store if you have incandescent tail lights. From there wiring is straight forward enough with power and ground connections to the tail light circuits and the flasher in between. I have attached an image to show you the position of the tail light connectors for the 7-way as well as the ground connection.
