Can Self Adjusting Trailer Brake Assemblies be Manually Adjusted

Question:

I have a 2016 Rockwood Ultra Lite Fifth Wheel 8281WS most likely with self Adjustinginch brakes: Brakes have become non responsive the last couple of years. Is there a way to actually adjust a self adjusting break shoe, and if so what is the best way to do so. I believe my trailer has the 4,400lb axels and most likely the Shoes # K23-478-479. Thank you for your time.

Yes, you can manually adjust self-adjusting brakes with a spoon like the drum brake spoon # W80630. We've done it here in the office years ago because we weren't sure if it was possible but it is. It is harder to get to the star wheel that adjusts the brake on self adjusting assemblies but it is possible. You'll need to remove the plugs on the back of the assemblies.

For replacement assemblies we do have the set you mentioned of # K23-478-479.
